Limerick Museum and Archives recognise the heritage captured by these Limerick Leader photographers and have supported the Limerick Leader to digitise and catalogue a key decade of this archive- the 1970’s.
The Limerick Leader began publishing in 1889 and celebrated its 125th year in business on 12 August 2014. The photographic archive commenced in 1954 when the Limerick Leader employed its own staff photographers. Many images never made it into print and remained unseen for decades.

To recognise this unique archive an exhibition has been created using archive images from the 1970’s with artistic responses from the students of LSAD curated by Limerick Museum and Archives. This major exhibition titled ‘From Limerick with Love’ is an affectionate portrait of Limerick and went on display in Shannon Airport, in March 2014. It came into the city in September in 2014 and went on display over City Hall and the campus of LSAD.

This is a Limerick City of Culture funded project under the ‘Made in Limerick’ strand.
